Erol Alkan – 6 Mix ,19-9-2009

Erol Alkan – 6 Mix

 Mirror

Erol Alkan is the DJ and promoter of London’s most talked about club Trash. Always two steps ahead of anyone else the club has played host to the first gigs in the capital for the likes of The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, Zoot Woman, Peaches and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs to more leftfield newcomers this year like Captain Comatose, Fannypack, Mu and Whirlwind Heat.

Alongside the rise of Trash Erol has become a sought after DJ at cutting edge dance clubs like Bugged Out, 21st Century Body Rockers, Return To New York, Fabric, The Cock and The Boutique. His salacious, anarchic DJing style – playing records with the verve and enthusiasm of a rock star with the looks to match – has inspired a keen fanbase. He’s always got some curveballs and surprises burnt onto CD ‘specially for each gig and is often the lucky recipient of upfront tunes from kindred spirits like Soulwax, Tiga, Trevor Jackson, Ewan Pearson and Blackstrobe.

In the last two years his spirited attitude to DJing and music (which he has an encylopedic knowledge of and never stops talking about!) was recognised at the Muzik awards in 2002 where he won the ‘Best Newcomer’ and has found him playing all the major clubs and festivals abroad this year with regular trips to New York, Paris, Berlin, Belgium, Sweden, Brazil and Denmark. At
Glastonbury 2003 he played three different sets across the weekend on the dance stage, the Radio 1 stage (broadcast live) and at the Vice party.

His mix for Muzik magazine in July 2003 featured tracks from the following artists: Playgroup/Zongamin/Mitsy/Duran Duran/The Faint/Codec and Flexor/Headman/Chicken Lips/Goldfrapp/Ewan Pearson/Kiko & The Hacker/Ferenc/Archigram/Uminski.

Ellen Allien – Live At The Radio Sessions Electronic Beats On Air ,17.9.2009

Ellen Allien – Live At The Radio Sessions Electronic Beats On Air

Mirror

Like a lot of dance music producers, Berlin’s Ellen Allien has had her hands in just about every aspect of her field. Allien’s immersion into dance music began during an extended stay in London, at the height of the acid house phenomenon. Shortly after returning home she got into DJing, and by 1993 she had spun at Fischlabor, Tresor, and a number of other significant clubs. Throughout the remainder of the ’90s, she hosted programs on Berlin’s Kiss FM, worked at the Delirium record shop, operated a label called Braincandy, and threw a number of parties called BPitch Control, which led to her label of the same name. She became a noted producer and issued a series of full-lengths – Stadtkind (2001), Berlinette (2003), Thrills (2005) and together with Apparat Orchestra of Bubbles (2006).

John has built a career around discovering artists and presenting new music to the world, starting with his labels launched in the 90’s with Richie Hawtin.

Instrumental and pioneered the role of combining traditional turntable DJing with the digital world, he helped to launch FinalScratch at the turn of the decade. Seeing the full potential of this vision since the very early days, John also became founded and launched Beatport.com, which has changed the way DJs and music fans buy and discover the music they love.

John is well known for his vast record collection of over 50.000 pieces of vinyl, spanning virtually the entire length of club music history. He’s also rumored to have played through it as well.
